The celebration of the VIII Centenary of the University of Salamanca in 2018 will represent an exceptional opportunity to reflect on the new challenges in the field of knowledge, from the perspective of the principles and attitudes which achieved universal recognition for this institution. This occasion will also provide a favourable climate for the diffusion of the new cultural, scientific and technological realities of Salamanca and its environment, together with the transformation of its University into a Campus of International Excellence. This project captures the spirit of social commitment of the School of Salamanca, and it integrates research lines promoting sustainable economy and development, effective equality and social innovation, education and a culture of peace. These ideas are behind the excellent teaching, research and transfer of knowledge being carried out in several departments and institutes of our University. For this project, we have chosen those that revolve around two of the specialization lines for which the University of Salamanca is most widely known, both due to the high levels we have achieved and to their critical mass and incidence on the improvement of our immediate environment. Consequently, the Campus of International Excellence defines a multidisciplinary campus focussing on the promotion, research and teaching of the Spanish Language, and its capacity to pass on the culture and values of the Hispanic world. It is also rooted in the capacities developed by the University of Salamanca in the field of Bioscience, which contribute to knowledge transfer towards society. This campus is conceived with a clear international vocation particularly oriented towards the Spanish-Portuguese axis, through transborder cooperation, and the Iberoamerican axis. The Campus of International Excellence is conceived as a framework in which Biosciences become integrated with the Spanish Language, with a firm commitment to excellence and the creation of a value chain that connects teaching, research and technology with their social and business environments. Strategic alliances are the best means to achieve excellence and international significance, to consolidate the attraction and retention of talent and to put together our efforts in order to lead a real change in the productive model. We have the support of a group of institutional and business promoter partners of the Campus of Excellence who have agreed to join us on our journey and will collaborate with the University of Salamanca in specific and effective ways for the future of the Project. |
